Making tax digital, made simple

filr was built with one goal: to make HMRC's Making Tax Digital for Income Tax as painless as possible for sole traders and landlords across the UK.

Why we built filr

From April 2026, sole traders and landlords earning over £50,000 per year must submit quarterly digital updates to HMRC. This is a significant change that affects hundreds of thousands of people across the UK.

We saw that existing accounting software was either too complex, too expensive, or not focused on what self-employed people actually need: a simple way to record income and expenses, and submit them to HMRC on time.

That's filr — a focused, affordable MTD bridge that does exactly what you need and nothing you don't.

What we stand for

Simplicity

No bloated features. Record your income and expenses, connect to HMRC, and submit. That's it.

Security

AES-256 encryption on all sensitive data. Row-level security on every database table. Your data is yours.

Affordability

Plans from just £4.99/month. MTD compliance shouldn't cost a fortune.

HMRC recognised

filr is built to meet HMRC's requirements for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA) compatible software. We implement the full suite of HMRC APIs including quarterly submissions, End of Period Statements, and Final Declarations — all with compliant Fraud Prevention Headers.
